RA Fischer Co: Manufacturing Industry Case Study
A Compliance-First Approach
As a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) manufacturer, RA Fischer Co. needs to adhere to FDA and HIPAA guidelines. This involves an understanding of data protection – both at-rest and in-transit – and a keen eye to be able to identify certain compliance risks along the way. Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know. So, when working with manufacturers, 1Path takes a compliance-first approach.
1Path’s initial Technology Assessment included an evaluation of not only RA Fischer Co.’s server issue, but the entire office. Speaking to key decision makers, other problems were quickly uncovered, including a glitchy phone system.
Today, RA Fischer Co.’s new VoIP phone system includes modern features like voicemail-to-email and a cloud-based backup. Their overall environment is reliable, productive, and compliant of course.
“We considered a number of MSPs for our cloud project but chose 1Path because they offered the most comprehensive roadmap,” said Dan Moyer, VP Sales & Marketing at RA Fischer Co. “The move to Azure has been a complete success and the communication every step of the way put us at ease. Dealing with patient records, we have to be extra cautious when it comes to data. 1Path’s entire team was five-star from start to finish.”
The Problem
RA Fischer Co. was running on an end-of-life Windows 8 server that needed to be upgraded in order to meet their operational and compliance needs. With 30-years in business, RA Fischer Co. had a tremendous amount of data to move. This presented obvious stresses, and without and internal IT staff to oversee the data migration, the executive leadership sought an MSP with a strong cloud reputation.
The Solution
After assessing RA Fischer Co.’s compliance needs, data storage, internal processes, timeline, and budget, it was determined that Microsoft Azure would be the optimal cloud environment. Azure’s security and uptime were key deciding factors. 1Path’s roadmap included milestones and dates. Engineers worked both on-site and remotely to ensure a smooth transition of data with minimal downtime. Once RA Fischer’s Co.’s cloud went live, they were both relieved and excited to have accomplished a major company initiative.
The Results
The Azure cloud has significantly reduced RA Fischer Co.’s cybersecurity risk and allowed them to exceed HIPAA compliance requirements. Having flexible data storage came in handy when RA Fischer Co. had to transition employees to work remotely during COVID. Instead of being forced to shut down, the company was able to conduct business as usual with seamless, secure access to patient records, due in no small part to Microsoft’s Azure cloud.
